Op 9 en 10 juni 2012 is het Stadsplein in Amstelveen in Japanse sferen. Het Japan festival staat dat weekend op het programma. Het publiek wordt twee dagen lang getrakteerd op gevarieerd Japans entertainment.

Op het programma, dat onlangs bekend werd gemaakt, staan onder andere optredens van de spectaculaire Taiko drums en wordt opnieuw een wereldrecordpoging gedaan om de langste sushibar ter wereld te maken. Het hoogtepunt is een optreden van een ensemble van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest – voor het eerst in Amstelveen - op het Stadsplein.
'Het Japan Festival van 2012 is niet zomaar een festival, het is een vrolijke samenkomst van Japan en Nederland, culinair en cultureel, die de kracht van de samenwerking en het wederzijds respect symboliseert. Maar het is ook een festival waar ruimte is om nog even stil te staan bij de verschrikkelijke gebeurtenissen van 2011', - aldus burgemeester Van Zanen.

Vorig jaar werd dit festival vanwege de natuurramp in Japan geannuleerd en werd in plaats daarvan, ter nagedachtenis aan de slachtoffers van de ramp een concertavond gehouden met medewerking van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest.
Op die avond droeg de Japanse dichter Ryoichi Wago de gedichten Kanashimi (droefheid) en Kibou (hoop) voor. Burgemeester Van Zanen sprak die avond ook: 'En hoeveel beter kunnen wij op die hoop voortbouwen dan dit jaar het Japan Festival 2012 weer te houden. Daarmee zenden wij een krachtig signaal uit naar de Japanse samenleving dat wij hen in alles willen steunen op hun weg naar herstel.'

Het Japan festival wordt georganiseerd door een speciale stichting, waarin o.a. de gemeente Amstelveen als onderdeel van amsterdaminbusiness en de KLM en in participeren. Meer informatie: www.japanfestival.nl
JAPAN FESTIVAL, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, openingsconcert 7 juni 2012
Speciaal voor de sponsoren en hun relaties zal twee dagen voor aanvang van het festival een exclusief openingsconcert worden gegeven door een ensemble van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest in het Koninklijk Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Naar verwachting zal dit concert worden bijgewoond door leden van de Koninklijke Familie. Sponsoren worden voor deze avond uitgenodigd, die op hun beurt relaties uitnodigen naar rato van de sponsorbijdrage.
JAPAN FESTIVAL, Stadshart Amstelveen, 9 en 10 juni 2012.
Op het centrale plein in Amstelveen verrijzen twee grote z.g. perfect Sky tenten die samen het hoofdpodium vormen van het festival. Rondom deze centrale opstelling worden kleinere tenten opgesteld die worden gebruikt voor de uitgifte van Sushi's, voor diverse workshops en exposities of dienen als standruimte voor een sponsor.
De entree van het grote plein zal worden gesierd door een meer dan 8 meter hoge traditionele Japans poort, een zgn. Torii. Alle straatbeelden op het grote centrale plein zullen worden voorzien van herkenbare Japanse stijlkenmerken. Hoog in het dak van het hoofdpodium hangt een 4 meter grote gevouwen Origami kraanvogel.
Programma Japan Festival 2012
Kom langs en proef sushi, bereid door Japanse master chefs, bewonder origami, kalligrafie en ikebana en doe mee met Japanse kinderworkshops. Geniet van een verassend en gevarieerd podiumprogramma. Het hoogtepunt is een optreden van een ensemble van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest - voor het eerst in Amstelveen - op het Stadsplein.

2012年ジャパン・フェスティバル
今年のジャパン・フェスティバルは、6月9、10日にアムステルフェーンで開催される予定です。2012年のジャパン・フェスティバルの準備が急ピッチで進んでいる現在、日本を襲ったあの大災害から、はや1年が過ぎたとは信じられません。2011年3月11日、世界は、何万人もの日本人の生活が一変してしまうのを、ただ見ているしかありませんでした。多くの町が津波に容赦なく押し流されていきました。このような日本の犠牲者を悼んでジャパン・フェスティバル財団（Stichting Japan Festival）が主催した2011年の特別コンサートには、オランダ王室の方々もご出席されました。ロイヤル・コンセルトヘボウ管弦楽団が、ビバルディの「四季」を演奏し、日本の詩人、和合亮一さんが「悲しみ」、「希望」と題した詩を朗読しました。

この「希望」を何よりも表現していたのは、ビバルディの「四季」の演奏順序です。若手の日本人ソリストが、冬ではなく春でコンサートを締めくくりました。春は、新しい光、暖かさ、成長、希望を象徴します。このため、特別追悼コンサートのプログラムにも、希望を象徴する太陽の光の中へ飛んでいく優雅な鶴と桜の花が描かれていました。
今年、ロイヤル・コンセルトヘボウ管弦楽団は、6月7日木曜日、コンサートでフェスティバルの開会を飾ります。今回はアムステルダムのコンセルトヘボウ・ホールを会場とし、再び王室の方々がご出席される可能性があります。

2012年フェスティバル会場のテーマには、「日本の街並み」が選ばれました。つまり、会場の随所に日本の特徴的なスタイルが盛り込まれます。例えば、アムステルフェーン中心街にある広場の一端には、「リトル・ジャパン」の入口として、高さ8メートルの伝統的な鳥居が建てられます。この小さな「町」が、2日間にわたり、多くの方に日本文化や日本食を楽しんでいただく場となります。

2日間のフェスティバルの来場者は、共同で千羽鶴の製作に取り組みます。千羽鶴は、震災の影響に今なお苦しむ被災者の方々に贈呈される予定です。
JAPAN FESTIVAL 2012 Amstelveen
The Japan Festival this year will be held on 9 and 10 June in Amstelveen. Now the preparations for the 2012 edition of the Japan Festival are in full swing it is hard to imagine, that it was a year ago that Japan was hit by a devastating natural disaster. On 11 March 2011, the world could do little more than look on as the lives of tens of thousands of Japanese changed forever.
Entire villages were razed to the ground by a merciless tsunami. A special concert in memory of the victims was held in 2011 by the Japan Festival Foundation and attended by members of the Dutch Royal Family. An ensemble from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam performed Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and the Japanese poet Ryoichi Wago recited the poems Kanashimi (sorrow) and Kibou (hope).
‘Hope’ was further articulated by playing the Four Seasons in an unconventional order – a young Japanese soloist played Spring, rather than Winter, to conclude this special concert. Spring symbolises new light[??life], warmth, growth and hope. The programmes for this one-off concert were decorated with cherry blossom and graceful cranes flying towards the light of the sun as a symbol of that hope.
An ensemble from the Royal Concertgebouw will open this year’s concert on Thursday 7 June. Members of the Royal Family are once again expected to attend the concert at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

The emphasis of 2012 Festival will be on Japanese street scenes. Many stylistic features of the Japanese street will be on view. An eight-metre high traditional torii (gate) will rise up at the entrance to Amstelveen’s central square. In walking through this gate visitors will symbolically cross the border into what will be called ‘Little Japan’. For two days, visitors will be able to enjoy the cultural and culinary offering of this temporary village.
The themes of light and hope will be continued in this year’s Japan Festival. Following a centuries-old Japanese tradition, visitors to the two-day festival will join together to attempt to fold a thousand paper cranes. The thousand birds will be symbolically given to those who are still suffering everyday from the events of 2011.

One of the most recognisable forms of expression in Japanese musical culture are the impressive and spectacular Taiko Drummers. These drummers, with their beautiful traditional instruments will perform on both days of the festival, entrancing the audience at the main stage with their stirring rhythms.
Japan’s rich culinary culture will not remain uncelebrated. The Festival and Hotel Okura Amsterdam, are together organising a national sushi competition, which all the Japanese chefs of the Netherlands may enter. The grand finale will be held during the Japan Festival where the winner will be announced. The estimated 40,000 visitors to the festival will, of course, be able to savour this delicious Japanese speciality at various distribution points throughout the festival.

Japan enjoys world renown in sport. Many Japanese sports are practiced by many Dutch, young and old – karate, judo and kendo to name a few. Demonstrations and workshops for all these sports will also be held. Kendo will receive special attention from the festival organisers, because this year’s European junior championships will held in the Netherlands. The possibility holding the final on the main stage at the Japan Festival 2012 is being explored.
The Japanese festival is open to everyone and so there is plenty of entertainment for children. A famous Japanese car manufacturer has supplied the foundation with two cars covered in transparent film. Japanese children will be asked to paint one car in a way they think Dutch children would. Dutch children will be asked to decorate the other car in a way they think Japanese children would. Both vehicles will be unveiled at the Japanese Festival.
Of course, all the programmed events mentioned here are conditional, because the organisation of the festival is still underway. But whatever happens, visitors to the Japan Festival 2012 can look forward to two exciting days, which will embrace all things cultural and culinary, but where there will also be room to pause and remember the awful events of 2011.
