Schiphol-tulp ontwikkeld en gedoopt ter ere van 100 jarig bestaan

Op 11 april 2016 hebben Bart Siemerink, directeur van de Keukenhof, en Jos Nijhuis, president en CEO van Schiphol Group, de Schiphol-tulp gedoopt op het panoramaterras op Schiphol. De luchthaven viert dit jaar haar 100-jarig bestaan en de tulp is speciaal voor het jubileum ontwikkeld.

De Schiphol-tulp is geteeld door kwekerbedrijf Gerardus Lubbe en Zoon uit Lisse. Het is een oranje Triumph tulp die 40 cm hoog wordt en bloeit in april. Dit jaar zijn de eerste 10.000 bollen volgroeid. Een beperkt aantal zal dit jaar op diverse evenementen als relatiegeschenk worden weggegeven. De komende jaren zullen er jaarlijks ongeveer 5000 bollen bijkomen. Vanaf 2017 zal de Schiphol-tulp te koop zijn, onder andere op Schiphol Plaza.

Bart Siemerink, director of the Keukenhof flower garden and Jos Nijhuis, President & CEO of Schiphol Group, christened the Schiphol tulip on Schiphol's Panorama Terrace today. This year, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is celebrating its 100th anniversary and the tulip was developed specially to mark the occasion.

The Schiphol tulip was produced by the growers G. Lubbe en Zoon from Lisse, the Netherlands. It is an orange Triumph tulip which reaches a height of 40 cm and flowers in April. The first 10,000 bulbs became available earlier this year and will be given away as promotional gifts at various events. Over the next few years, around 5,000 additional bulbs will become available each year.
